What types of building projects have they worked on before, can you view any of the local builds to view example work?
How many years have they been in business?
Do they have a good reputation, testimonials?

How to decide.
If they have membership of a Professional Body or Trade Association, ring the organisation to check that they are a member and about the kind of assurances that offers you for example protection if anything goes wrong.
What type of guarantee of warranty do they offer?
How long do they estimate that the work will take, what will happen if this time is exceeded?
What exactly is included in the price that they are quoting, materials, labour, are there any additional costs?
