The importance of exhaust systems.
The exhaust system of a vehicle has four main functions:
Reduce noise.
To control the gases produced by the engine and keep them away from the vehicle occupants.
Improve the fuel consumption and performance of the engine.
Exhausts can become corroded from both the inside and outside.Vehicles used for short trips around town tend to corrode their exhausts in a much shorter time and distance than cars used predominately for long journeys.

Catalytic convertors
From 1993 all petrol cars exhausts manufactured include a catalytic convertor and all diesel cars from 1997. The catalytic convertor reduces the amount of hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides produced by the combustion of fuel in your engine ,reducing the amount of pollutants emitted to the atmosphere.
