Choosing guttering

Guttering is available in a wide range of materials, such as aluminium, plastic, copper, stainless steel and galvanised steel.

Steel guttering is very strong and durable, but it will need to painted at regular intervals to prevent rusting.

Aluminium guttering is a much lighter and affordable alternative to steel and does not have the disadvantage of rusting, but they do require more frequent maintenance then other types.

Plastic and UPVC guttering is very popular, it is lightweight, virtually maintenance free and can be supplied in a wide range of colours to suit your property. The disadvantages are the lack of strength and plastic guttering is effected by the hot and cold weather.

Cast iron guttering is extremely heavy so it is very important the fixings and brackets are securely fixed. Soffits and fascias must also be well maintained to prevent cast iron guttering pulling away form its fixings.
