Choosing Firewood.

Always choose firewood or logs that have been properly seasoned.

When wood is freshly cut down (green) it has a much higher water content, this makes it more difficult to burn, will produce more smoke and is much less efficient as energy is wasted driving the water content from the wood.

Once cut and split, logs should be stacked and then left to dry (season) for 6 to 9 months, different woods take different amounts of time to dry out, ask your supplier about their seasoning process.

Safety.

When using wood burning stoves or open fireplaces, make sure that your chimney is kept clean and inspected at regular intervals.

This will help to prevent chimney fires and reduce the risk of fumes being emmitted into your home by blocked or restricted flues.
